February 2, 2025 Meeting Recap
Our online meeting was a success, with participants joining from the United States, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Germany, and Romania. Hosted via our self-managed Jitsi platform, the session was technically flawless—even supporting live piano demonstrations.
The meeting agenda, circulated in advance by email, featured:
- Member Introductions: We warmly welcomed new members and invited them to share a brief introduction.
- Project Updates: Several members discussed ongoing musical endeavors. One member is currently engaged in a fascinating project centered on Scriabin’s Opus 11. In this artistic undertaking, she will narrate a story from the perspective of Scriabin’s first love, infusing a creative narrative into the preludes. This innovative project not only reinterprets the music but also serves as an experiment to gauge audience reactions to a novel performance approach—perfectly aligning with our club’s commitment to promoting art. Additionally, another member has embarked on an exploration of all Scriabin sonatas.
- Lecture by Martin Kaptein: Our founder, pianist, and educator Martin Kaptein presented a 20-minute lecture on the role of art in contemporary society. He examined how our perceptions—rooted in neurological processes—can be enhanced through art. Martin also highlighted the importance of art education, referencing Kandinsky’s Black Square (created in 1915, coinciding with the year Scriabin passed away) as a prime example of artistic culmination. His insights sparked a thoughtful and lively discussion among attendees.
Looking Ahead: March 2, 2025
Our next meeting is scheduled for March 2, 2025. We are excited to announce that one of our respected members (name to be confirmed) will deliver a presentation on the process of memorizing Scriabin’s set of 24 Preludes (Opus 11). We eagerly anticipate another session of insightful dialogue and shared passion.
Scriabin Festival 2025
We are delighted to invite all Scriabin Club members to the upcoming Scriabin Online Festival in November 2025. This international event, organized in collaboration with leading Scriabin Societies under the guidance of Sherry Grant, commemorates 110 years since Scriabin’s passing. Starting in April 2025, we will be collecting recordings and publications in preparation for the festival. We welcome contributions and collaborative efforts that underscore our commitment to celebrating and promoting Scriabin’s artistic legacy.
If you share our passion for Scriabin’s work and the arts, we invite you to learn more about joining our community via our Joining page.
We look forward to your continued participation in our meetings and events.
